R. Schumann Das Paradies und die Peri National Orchestra and Chorus-Budapest

One of the best concerts of the season…An inspired and dramatic performance. This evening Tomasello appeared as the representative of that type of conductor who unfolds the form and the characters by exploring the contents of the score as precisely as possible. It is to Tomasello’s credit that this time we were able to listen to not only a professional and beautiful but also inspired by the National Philharmonic. The conductor and the orchestra, it seems, were both touched by the opera, and were able to convey this commitment and even make it the essential driving force of the show. (Bóka Gábor- Jelenko Online)

G.Mahler 1. Symphonie ( 1889 – version) , Z. Kodaly Peacock Variations Mittelsächsische Philharmonie

With compositions by Zoltán Kodály and Gustav Mahler, the orchestra under the confident direction of Attilio Tomasello ventured into impassable terrain and shone with sensitively open, imaginative interpretations of two incredibly multifaceted works (…) The orchestra played the work, which was brimming with ideas, with convincing clarity , fine differentiations of moods (…) The promising, almost sold-out start of the new concert season in Central Saxony was enthusiastically celebrated. (Freiepresse)

Opern-Gala Mittelsächsische Philharmonie

The audience is thrilled by the musical quality, but also by the fresh team spirit and the infectious joy of playing that literally spills over the pit, in which Attilio Tomasello delivers a thrilling conducting. (Freiepresse)

G.Donizetti  La Favorita  St Galler Festspiele

The music and its implementation by the singers, the well-prepared choirs (…) and the St.Gallen Symphony Orchestra, which plays in a differentiated manner and with surprisingly rich colors (especially the wind instruments), under the careful direction of Attilio Tomasello, who savors the beauties of the score. Tomasello turns Donizetti’s musical drama into an atmospheric feast for melomaniacs. (Oper Aktuell)

Musically, the evening in the monastery courtyard is extremely enjoyable. The St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra, positioned under the stage set, plays with spring and precision under the direction of its first conductor Attilio Tomasello. String solos become quiet highlights. Tomasello also always has the big picture in mind. (Südkurier)

(..) Attilio Tomasello’s conducting also made it clear that it is a work of one piece: straightforward, taut, but also breathing broadly and conveying: impressive, especially in the fourth act, where the music opens up into a large atmospheric panorama. (Landbote)

L.Janacek  Das schlaue Füchslein St Galler Theater

It is precisely this ensemble, consisting of 19 musicians, that becomes the real experience of this performance at the St. Gallen Theater. Hardly a splash of color is lost in a carpet of sound, the forest shimmers and hums, subtleties and friction become audible; Even in the harsher human world there are softer, sometimes tender nuances. Attilio Tomasello leads the orchestra and vocal ensemble with certain gestures through the work, which is also sonically and rhythmically very demanding in this version for chamber orchestra by Jonathan Dove, and just as carefully sets sharp accents between the flattering blossoming euphony. (P.Schaufelberger, Südkurier)

Janácek’s music is played in a brilliant arrangement for chamber orchestra by Jonathan Dove. For the Feldkirch students, this is a challenge that they master brilliantly. For almost two hours, they coordinate the difficult, often solo instrumental parts with the scenic action. (Schwäbische Zeitung)

The orchestra of the Feldkirch State Conservatory is growing beyond itself under the differentiated, careful direction of Attilio Tomasello; it allows the color shades of the score to shine without sanding down the harshness and jagged edges. (St. Galler Tagblatt)

G.Verdi  Simon Boccanegra Deutsche Oper Berlin

The orchestra, led by Attilio Tomasello, responded with lush, expressive phrasings. (The MET Opera Guild)

A.Ponchielli  La Gioconda  Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe

Attilio Tomasello took over the baton with largely excellent results. The Karlsruhe pit is peopled by a superb group of musicians, and they had a very good night indeed. Maestro Tomasello deviated from a few standard choices of tempi  but he partnered well enough with his singers and displayed secure control of the many large ensembles.  (James Shore, Opera Today)

Only good things about the orchestra, which was perfectly prepared by Attilio Tomasello. The Mannheim Kapellmeister’s first own rehearsal clearly avoided the noise traps that conductors desperate for impact tend to fall into. Nothing was inflated, the disparate parts of the score were atmospherically tied together, everything was properly weighted. The extremely elaborate “Dance of the Hours” made it clear that Tomasello must also be a good concert conductor.  (Sigrid Feeser, Echo-Online)

G.Verdi  Un Ballo in maschera Nationaltheater Mannheim

..What was striking was his flexibility in tempo and dynamics: while he prepared some scenes dramatically and built up enormous tension in the draw scene, he took all the time in the world for the big cantilenas, both vocally and instrumentally. The orchestra appeared in its existing form.  (Mannheimer Morgen)

J.C Bach  Amadis des Gaules Nationaltheater Mannheim

Attilio Tomasello leads the orchestra with absolute security, and the Mannheimers play, mindful of their school, all of its virtues, but in a very sensual way. (Der Neue Merker)

J.Massenet  Werther Nationaltheater Mannheim

Attilio Tomasello at the pit of the National Theater’s Orchestra painted shocking portraits of the soul, allowed the lyrical scenes to blossom and was rightly celebrated during the frenetic final applause(Waltraud Brunst, Mannheimer Morgen)

A.Franchetti  Germania Deutsche Oper Berlin

…the orchestra, conducted that evening by Attilio Tomasello, showed its excellent form with a wide range of balanced sounds, which had the opportunity to shine in the generous part that Franchetti gave them: the symphonic intermezzo. (F.Figueroa, operayre.com)

…The orchestra, conducted by Attilio Tomasello, performed well and was sometimes excellent. (P.Cavallotti/Il giornale della musica)

..the orchestration is heavy: it is undoubtedly difficult to conduct this work more easily than Attilio Tomasello without distorting it. (A.Zürcher, Operabase)

G.Puccini  Tosca Nationaltheater Mannheim

Attilio Tomasello, at the podium of the National Theater Orchestra, unleashed the symphonic fullness of the score, in the powerful Te Deum as well as in the lyricism of the last act. (Mannheimer Morgen)

A.Honegger  Les aventures du roi Pausole  Opéra de Nice

It would be unfair not to associate Attilio Tomasello’s conducting with open vitality with the triumph. Point of unnecessary emphasis, discreet and effective when necessary. (C.Colombeau, forumopera.com)

W.A.Mozart  Die Entführung aus dem Serail Nationaltheater Mannheim

The orchestra under Attilio Tomasello’s exciting direction carries the ensemble and choir as if on hands to an audience success. (Monika Lanzendörfer, Mannheimer Morgen)

(Monika Prusak, Il Corriere Musicale)

Orchestra Sinfonica di Udine, Symphonic Concert

The orchestral performance is excellent, compact, attentive and punctual in supporting the soloist, rich in sound nuances. With Maestro Tomasello’s clear and flowing gesture, the formation begins with a sparkling reading. (Il Messaggero)
